Family Dance, Telus Spark and Walk and Wheel Week

Family Dance LINK

PREPARING FOR PATIENCE, KINDNESS AND UNDERSTANDING AT THE JUNE 6 FAMILY DANCE

The upcoming Family Dance is 100% planned, organized and set up by our parent volunteers. As this is the first event they have ever planned, we are asking for patience, understanding and kindness from those that attend. (There will be some leadership students from North Trail High School coming to help run the games and put on the tattoos, but this is also the first opportunity they have had to do something like this.)

Activities will be as spread out in the building and on the back courtyard as possible, but it will still be SUPER busy, which will mean line-ups and crowds. It may also potentially mean running out / selling out of the temporary tattoos or items from the ‘Snack Shack’. Please talk to your children in advance so they are aware that these things are possible and how we can help make things easier by handling delays or any disappointments with a smile and an attitude of ‘that’s okay’.

We thank all of the parents that are giving their time to help make the dance happen!

Mrs. Harris and Ms. Irvine took their classes to Telus Spark on Monday!
We are so excited to go on June 10th!

We are thankful for our parent volunteers who are joining us...
our day would not be possible without volunteers!

Students wrote about how they are feeling about the field trip!

Next week is Walk and Wheel Week!

Cultural Appreciation WEEK

This week is Cultural Appreciation WEEK!

We started the monring with celebrating WHERE our families are from
by putting a PIN on the map!

We took a gallery walk and learned how you say WELCOME in different languages!

We read the book, More than Peach and we had a thoughtful discussion to WHY this book is important and WHEN Crayola added Multicultural Colours and Colours of the World.

We learned that it wasn't until 2020, that Crayola launched Colours of the World for child to colourfully express themselves with over 40 global skin tones.

Studnets completed cultural presentations at HOME and shared with the class!

In Math, we are learning about transformations.
Students are learning to translate, rotate and reflect shapes.

Studnets understood the vocabulary, but had a difficult time with the application. Students had to build a pentomino rectangle using translation, rotation and reflection and then had to verbally support their peers with the appropraite vocabulary.

Next week we will...
... show a personal understanding of Plant Growth and Changes
... begin their Homestead project (each student NEEDS a shoebox)
... re-visit increasing and decreasing patterns
- begin exploring with lights and shadows

Alberta, Plants and Shoe Boxes

Studnets are finishing their presentations on their famous Albertan.

Students explored how the structure of texts can support the organization and comminication
of ideas or information.

Students will share with their classmates as they practice their presentation skills and adjust verbal and non-verbal language to enhance clarity when communicating.

Next week students will begin their Homestead project.

We are asking students to bring in a shoebox for their project!

Please send a shoebox on Tuesday!

WOW! We have less than 30 days left of school! Studnets continue to master their
multilpication and division skills up to 12x12.
Please continue to support your child with those skills in preperation for Grade 5

We learned about plant adaptations and how plants survive in different environments

Students are working on writing multiple paragraphs on ONE topic.
Students wrote about a camping experience they have had OR they would like to have

As we prepare for Cultural Appreciation Week, we read the story Same, Same but Different

Students are welcome to create a Google Slide presenation about their culture to share with the class

On Wednesday, May 22, students are welcome to Wear their Favourite Outfit Day.
Students can wear their favourite outfit or cultural clothing.

Students created a chart or a vienn diagram to show the similarities and
differences between the two boys in the story

Studnets began a final project highlighting their personal understanding of Plant Growth and Changes

Mrs. Sloane sent the Telus Spark Field Trip forms home on Tuesday!
If your child has not shared it with you, please ask, fill it out and return it on Tuesday!
