Third week of learning with Ms.Piper

Happy Thursday! Although this was a short week, we still did a lot of new learning and exploration!

In Literacy, students created some more poems (personification and limericks) and finished their anthology of poems books. They turned out beautifully!

In Social Studies, students learned about all of the natural and non natural resources that can be found in Alberta and how they are used to meet humans needs.

In Math, we continued our learning about algebra and how to balance equations and solve for variables.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a happy Easter! - Ms. Piper

Second week of learning with Ms. Piper

Another week has gone by and it was filled with lots of new learning and wonderful experiences! It feels like Spring is finally here!!

This week we continued to learn about and create poems. We focused on haikus (3 lines- 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables), colour poems (about your favourite colour) and concrete poems (written in shapes.)

In Social Studies, students have been exploring the past and the different dinosaur fossils that can be found around Alberta. We watched an investigation about the dinosaur Borealopelta and how it could possibly be preserved in such great condition after millions of years!

In Math, we finished fractions, decimals, and percentages and the students did their show what you know. Then we started our new unit on algebra and learned about the order of operations.

For art, students showed their appreciation to our lovely lunchroom supervisor, Ms. Sam, and created some beautiful art with words they felt best described her!

Enjoy this lovely weather and have a great weekend! - Ms. Piper

First week of learning with Ms. Piper

Hello and happy Friday! I had a wonderful first week with the students getting to know them and learning about what they have been doing so far in grade 4!

This week in Literacy we started poetry. The students created simile poems using like and as, about the different colours of the rainbow. They were so creative with their adjectives and ideas on what to for each colour.

In Science we have been learning about Earth Systems and the different spheres that make up Earth: the Lithosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere.

And in Math we learned how to convert decimals into fractions and vice versa. Students also learned how to convert fractions and decimals into percentages.

In Art, we celebrated the fact that it is finally spring and created robin bird drawings. Check out the beautiful colours that students added to their birds!

I'm looking forward to our next week of learning! Have a wonderful weekend! - Ms. Piper :)
